The revised Ford Mustang Dark Horse takes the seventh-generation Mustang formula to a new level in South Africa, offering sharper performance, more aggressive styling and enhanced track-focused engineering compared to the previous Mustang GT. Positioned as the halo model in Ford’s local Mustang range, the Dark Horse is the first new Mustang performance series introduced in more than two decades and delivers the most capable naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 Mustang ever officially sold in South Africa.
At the heart of the Dark Horse is a specially tuned 5.0-litre Coyote V8 engine producing 334 kW and 540 Nm, paired with Ford’s advanced 10-speed automatic transmission. Compared to the previous Mustang GT, the Dark Horse benefits from upgraded forged internal engine components derived from the Shelby GT500, revised cooling systems, sharper steering calibration and enhanced aerodynamics aimed at improving both road and track performance.
The revised model also introduces significant chassis and suspension upgrades over the outgoing specification. Ford has fitted the Dark Horse with a MagneRide adaptive damping system, unique suspension tuning, larger Brembo brakes and specially developed Pirelli tyres for improved grip and handling precision. These updates make the Dark Horse noticeably more focused and capable during spirited driving while still remaining comfortable enough for everyday road use.
Visually, the Mustang Dark Horse stands apart from the standard Mustang GT with a more aggressive front fascia, darkened exterior detailing, unique rear spoiler, exclusive alloy wheels and signature Dark Horse badging throughout. Inside, the cabin receives a major technological leap compared to previous-generation Mustangs, featuring a fully digital cockpit with dual configurable displays, upgraded graphics, premium materials and performance-focused driver controls.
